Local designer Phiwase Nxumalo’s brand House of Diva is creating a firestorm in South Africa. House of Diva is the talk on everyone’s lips, as Swaziland’s budding line that has successfully infiltrated that market in South Africa.
The House of Diva was officially founded in 2004 and the idea behind the fashion house was to create a ready to wear brand that would offer women elegant, timeless garments at every stage of their lives. Hence the brand has sub-brands for example Baby Diva and Funky Diva, which are set towards a younger target audience.
Today it operates from the centre of Johannesburg and supplies outlets based in New Doornfontien which is their studio store, Soweto which is in the South and within the suburbs of both Rosebank, Johannesburg and Menlyn, Pretoria. Talk about a big deal! SCENE caught wind of the success of House of Diva and decided to profile the brains behind the line. She may be known to many as the co-founder of advertising company Sibuko Sesive back in the day but since then she has catapulted herself into a fierce businesswoman with a endearing business model. Phiwase Nxumalo owner and founder of the fashion house, is a Swazi, third born child out of five children, three girls and one boy, she was raised and born in Swaziland with a passion for the creative arts.
The business model at the House of Diva is strictly a ready to wear and is available to women from a size 28 to 46.
